SUMMARY:[ENTFÄLLT WEGEN KRANKHEIT] Guided Tour | subjektive fotografie
DESCRIPTION:
75 years ago, Otto Steinert (1915–1978) launched the legendary series of subjektive fotografie exhibitions. Following the first exhibition in Saarbrücken in 1951, it moved on to Cologne, Munich and Rochester,
USA; subjektive fotografie 2 travelled to Paris and Tokyo in 1954–55; and subjektive fotografie 3 visited Brussels and Hamburg. Featuring works by many well-known photographers, the international scope of the first exhibition, six years after the end of the war, sent a powerful cultural and political signal in favour of a peaceful, united Europe. In doing so, subjektive fotografie navigated the difficult terrain between experimentation and realistic, humanistic representation. Our presentation showcases 140 photographic exhibits that highlight the polarity of experimental and documentary photography, and of abstraction and the portrayal of people. With very few exceptions, we are showing exclusively images that were featured in the historical subjektive fotografie exhibitions.
